Robert De Niro as Hosni Mubarak

I couldn't resist this rather silly post but I like conjuring up separated-at-birth scenarios. If ever a film was made on the life of Hosni Mubarak, the actor most suited to play the deposed Egyptian president, I think, would be Robert De Niro. Just make sure they have their sunglasses on. Not that I'd want to watch a biopic on Mubarak but then they made more than one film on Idi Amin who was a more colourful, barbaric, and cruel dictator.

Who's next? James Earl Jones as Robert Mugabe? They're both in their 80s. It's worth a shot.

    1. Charles, not so much without the glasses but some makeup would take care of that as well.

    1. Thank you, Tracy. There was an Indian political magazine some two decades ago that did this sort of thing regularly.

  3. You've set me off on a very peculiar train of thought - what about Helen Mirren as Princess Di (had she reached middle age) or Gerard Depardieu as Winston Chruchill - if Alec Baldwin played Ronald reagan I might even have voted for him! Cheers mate ...

    1. Those are fine examples, Sergio, especially Mirren as Diana. Celebrity lookalikes don't come to me easily. They do so only if I have read about them or seen them on television in one context or the other. Mubarak was in the news recently, wearing dark glasses and looking at the camera from behind bars, while I happened to see De Niro on film recently and thought they looked a little like twins.

    2. Alec Baldwin as Ronald Reagan, now that I'd pay to see!

    3. I'd also pay to see Robert DeNiro do Mubarak, or anything more serious than the light-weight stuff he's been doing a lot of lately.

    4. Ron, I can see what Sergio meant—Baldwin would make a good Reagan lookalike with his well-groomed full head of hair. I haven't seen De Niro in his recent films though I suffered him a great deal in MEET THE PARENTS and MEET THE FOCKERS. Streisand and Hoffman might have salvaged the latter from the rather forgettable De Niro-Stiller combine.

    1. Yes, Mallika, there's one looking just like you and me somewhere in the world, or so they say.
