I Dreamed a Dream by Susan Boyle
In April 2009, Susan Boyle, as a 47-year old unmarried and unemployed Scottish woman, took Britain's Got Talent, Simon Cowell, and the music industry by storm when she sang I Dreamed a Dream from Les Miserables to global applause. If you want to know what instant success and glory is, watch this video. You'll give her a standing ovation too.

Oh yes. That was wonderful.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely an amazing voice.
ReplyDeleteMystica, I agree. Boyle has since cut albums and now has a full-fledged career as a professional singer.
ReplyDeleteCharles, it sure is. I think she came second place, which was a pity, for she deserved the crown.
ReplyDeleteI love her voice too and have looked up her other recordings (the way she sings 'The Wild Horses' is beautiful).
ReplyDeleteWhat I don't like about that show (and that clip) are the patronizing reactions to her. Both the disbelief before she starts singing, then the shots to the judges and other people afterwards as they learn their lesson that wow, people who aren't utterly gorgeous can have talent. But I agree it was a memorable moment.
An amazing moment, wasn't it? And I really agree with HKATZ about their patronizing attitude. Like good voices can only come out of beautiful mouths.
ReplyDeleteHKatz, you have a good point. Frankly, it didn't occurred to me. What did occur to me, though, was that the whole thing might have been rigged; except for Boyle who may not have been a part of it. Either way it was her moment.
ReplyDeletePatti, amazing moment it was, notwithstanding Simon Cowell's handling of Susan Boyle, especially in the wake of her loss. In his own words, "There is no easy way of achieving fame, and no guaranteed or trusted way of dealing with it. Who has the right to ban Susan Boyle, or anyone like her, from trying to sing her way out of one life and into another? There have been problems, but I think overall it is a positive experience for her. I'm glad we gave her this opportunity."
