THE DEEP I only ever caught on video and, at least in my memory, played like an extended wet t-shirt contest with no plot that I could even remotely recall. JAWS however is lodged in there for its wonderful music and that great forward-tracking-reverse-zoom shot of Scheider watching the beach that Spielberg copped from VERTIGO and which is just one of dozens of great visual grace notes - a classy suspense, even if it does slow down a bit once it reahces the high seas.
