They do so mainly in the mining regions of the country. I suspect the bargeman wasn't alone in what he did! On-the-road truck drivers in India would have similar stories to tell.Prashant C. As for his "story," it had to do with having a woman in every port, and the specifics are best left unsaid here. I'm sure there're many films featuring steamboats, especialy in the mid-20th century period.Prashant C. Mark Twain's stories revolving around the Mississippi will stay on in memory. As I put this post together, I was inspired to read a story about the river and I'll be posting the review shortly. I hope you will tell that river boatman's story some day.Prashant C. In fact, such and other boats play a marginal but fairly important role across rivers in India too.Prashant C. It has always been a favorite movie, but mostly for the Jerome Kern songs. And while looking for that, I found a lot of other movies featuring steamboats that I was not aware of. Very interesting.TracyKhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08303342674824383688noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1169151311037688512.post-54814610278605920982013-10-19T11:44:20.562-07:002013-10-19T11:44:20.562-07:00What excitement it must have been to be there when...What excitement it must have been to be there when those ships came in. The River and its tributaries were the "interstate highway system" of their day. Mark Twain did much to embed riverboating into the national myth. There is still plenty of traffic on the rivers; I am now reminded of meeting a riverboatman 50 years ago while traveling by train from Chicago to New Orleans. He had quite the story to tell.Ron Scheerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15357501069513854664noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1169151311037688512.post-25863972971404508842013-10-19T05:57:24.011-07:002013-10-19T05:57:24.011-07:00Steam boats played a very big role in the westward...Steam boats played a very big role in the westward expansion of America. For example, Irish immigrants arriving in New York City often made group bookings on steamships to head west. Mel uhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08714473754458914681noreply@blogger.com
