The couple are equal partners in this...and this is decided about five pages in. The rest of the book is brilliantly about how and if they can do what they've decided they must do...Todd Masonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01815516018079824802noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1169151311037688512.post-31039559777541043832012-10-05T13:51:27.842-07:002012-10-05T13:51:27.842-07:00Hi Prashant, I did see one of the film CAPE FEARs ...Hi Prashant, I did see one of the film CAPE FEARs - the earlier one with, I think, Gregory Peck as the father and Robert Mitchum as the villain. After that splendid cast didn't feel the need to watch the later adaptation.

Haven't read the book, possibly because I know the tension would be too much for me. But maybe one of these days...At any rate, I enjoyed reading your review - as always. :)Yvettehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08919246184376538331noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1169151311037688512.post-44462816795290332132012-10-05T10:37:04.029-07:002012-10-05T10:37:04.029-07:00Really enjoyed the review Prashant - unlike you, I...Really enjoyed the review Prashant - unlike you, I have only ever seen the movies. Todd is probably right about both in theta the first is the better but not a classic, while the second, while full of good things, is also too calculated in its effects to feel much more than a pastiche, albeit a superior one.Sergio (Tipping My Fedora)http://bloodymurder.wordpress.com/noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1169151311037688512.post-71570940233337600722012-10-05T08:45:00.963-07:002012-10-05T08:45:00.963-07:00I'd really like to see a movie of this that is...I'd really like to see a movie of this that is actually faithful to the novel, including the (sort of) anti-climactic ending. But Robert Mitchum as Max Cady would be hard to beat. And yes, this is my favourite JDM too.Anders Ehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06164550847416446757noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1169151311037688512.post-71859437253988262082012-10-05T07:06:09.673-07:002012-10-05T07:06:09.673-07:00The novel, which I will never refer to as CAPE FEA...The novel, which I will never refer to as CAPE FEAR, beats the hell out of both films. Particularly the newer one, which consistently verges on self-parody, but also the vastly overrated first one. THE EXECUTIONERS remains my favorite JDM novel.Todd Masonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01815516018079824802noreply@blogger.com
